It was another exciting win for the Cincinnati Reds as they score one run in the 8th and 9th innings to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 4-3.

The Reds had jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after two innings but then the Phillies started to hit the ball and and eventually took a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the 8th inning. That is when Corey Patterson tied the game with a two out homerun and then in the 9th inning, Paul Bako hit a infield single that scored Ryan Freel.  Wow what a crazy last couple of innings!

Francisco Cordero picked up the win as he pitched the ninth inning when the game was still 3-3.  Aaron Harang had started for the Reds, and pitched seven innings giving up two earned runs on six hits.  Overall it was a good pitching performance by everyone today.

The Cincinnati Reds lost to the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night after the Phillies connected for three homeruns.  The Reds pitching straff just completely sucked out there and then Reds offense couldn’t save them by putting up nine or ten runs.

Starting pitcher Josh Fogg only lasted four innings as he gave up six hits, six earned runs, and two homeruns.  Terrible performance out of Fogg on Friday night.  Jeremy Affeldt and Todd Coffey also gave up a earned run each.

Ken Griffey Jr. did have two RBI’s for the reds as he had a RBI single in the first inning, and then an RBI double in the third inning.  Corey Patterson helped out with a RBI sac fly in the fourth inning, but it clearly wasn’t enough to come back and beat the Phillies.

The Cincinnati Reds have signed two former Chicago Cubs players that played under manager Dusty Baker.  Centerfielder Corey Patterson and utility player Jerry Hairston Jr. have both signed minor league contracts with an invitation to spring training with the Reds.

Patterson had played the last few seasons with the Balitmore Orioles after he was traded there from the Chicago Cubs.  Patterson who was once thought to be a five tool player has never really got it going at the plate in his career.  He is a good defender however, and can provide the Reds with some depth.

Hairston played with the San Diego Padres last and was mostly used as a utility player.  He can play in the outfield as well as the infield.  He is a decent player, but isn’t going to put many numbers up in the stats column.
