Once or twice each season I drive down I-71 from my home in Cincinnati to see the Cincinnati Reds Triple-A affiliate in Louisville. Nearly seven years ago, I went with the sole purpose of seeing the future heart of the Cincinnati batting order. I had seen him several seasons before with the A-level Dayton Dragons, where he first exhibited the power of a "can't miss" major leaguer. He indeed reached the Majors, but the ones who did miss might have been the Reds.

Brandon Phillips hit a three-run homer and the Cincinnati Reds roughed up Heilman to beat the Diamondbacks 9-6 on Sunday. The Cincinnati Reds have reassigned left-hander Dontrelle Willis and outfielder Jeremy Hermida to their minor league camp. Willis, who agreed to a minor league deal in November, was trying to win a spot in Cincinnati's bullpen but walked 11 in 9 2-3 innings this spring. He also had no record with a 9.31 ERA.

Tim Lincecum is five days away from starting the opener for the San Francisco Giants. Good thing for him the season didn't start Saturday. Lincecum gave up six runs on 11 hits in five innings during his final spring training outing, but his teammates roughed up Reds reliever Aroldis Chapman and beat Cincinnati 9-6.
